"Civil War"!  Which civil war, some perspective would help a great deal?  What Nationality do you think the cap is?  Do the buttons on the side have any markings, front, or rear?

The makers stamp suggests a French or Belgian uniform cap but not necessarily military and it is not blocked like a kepi.  The small metal numbers might suggest railways, or even police.  Belgium adopted khaki as a uniform colour for its Army mid way through the war.

I've seen this ... pretty sure it's Belgian... let me make some enquiries.

Hi again, 

 

according to the person I reached out to, it's Belgian all right but not military!! 

It might be the sort of caps given to tram conductors, the number being the line number on which he worked on. 

 

At least that's one possibility.
