Doug Lewis Posted 22 January , 2005 Share Posted 22 January , 2005 Ive got a part copy of war diary (April 1918) for Special Coy Royal Engineers First Army. It refers to 589 CG drums being fired along with 1000 NC bombs,I know it's gas drums being fired but can anyone tell me what the initials stand for. Regards Doug. Robert Dunlop Posted 22 January , 2005 Share Posted 22 January , 2005 CG refers to 'Collongite', the French name for Phosgene. NC was a mixture of chloropicrin (PS - developed by Lever Brothers at Port Sunlight), a respiratory mucosal irritant and lachrymatory agent, with stannic chloride, which was used to achieve high penetration through German gas masks. Information from Foulkes. Robert
