Tomb1302 Posted 29 January , 2019 Share Posted 29 January , 2019 Hello all, Picked this up at an antique store near me just the other day. It is in very poor condition, and as a result, I'm having trouble identifying. The only real 'clues' here would be six rivets on each end of the helmet [shown in picture 3 quite well], the interior straps, and, the shape and color(s) of both the paint and metal Is it authentic, and if so, is it First World War era at all? Thank you.

4thGordons Posted 29 January , 2019 Share Posted 29 January , 2019 It's a WWII era civil defense helmet. Chris

Tomb1302 Posted 29 January , 2019 Author Share Posted 29 January , 2019 (edited) Thanks so much Chris! Additionally, I was wondering, what country is this one from? Also, would the condition reflect use or poor care? Edited 29 January , 2019 by Tomb1302
4thGordons Posted 29 January , 2019 Share Posted 29 January , 2019 While I am not an expert - I believe this type was primarily used in the United States - they are certainly commonly found there, and the remains of canvas suspension system look like the American style. (The similar British style helmet had the lining laced in). As to condition - I would assume primarily poor care/storage over the past +/- 50 years. Quite happy with the purchase; I love to learn from every addition.
