I have the medal index for the gentleman i am researching but am unsure of abbreviations, any help please.

 

medals awarded are as follows  :-   

 

ST ...... is this the 1914-15 Star

V..........is this the victory medal.

B.........is this the good conduct badge

 

In the "how issued or disposed of column" there is a "S" any idea what this indicates. And finally could someone please give me the route i take on ancestry to access war diaries please. thanks in advance.

B is for British War Medal & S is for Self.

St is 1914-15 Star. The 1914 Star is recorded as 1914 St

Admiralty medals had to be claimed. They were not issued unless claimed (unlike War Office medals). As ARABIS notes S = 'Self', i.e. the man claimed the medals and they were issued to him personally.
