Remembered Today:

Where would Italians which volunteer for the Austro-Hungarian Army go to?

Imperial

Recommended Posts

Like what I mean what regiments would they be assigned to. Since my great-great grandfather was living at the surrounding areas of Monfalcone which back then was part of the Empire and fought with the Austrians.  It would be very neat if anyone had an idea were Italians fighting for the Empire were sent. Even if there were any Italian regiments.

Anything is useful.

My mistake.

He came from northern Slovenia but my family and I speculate that he moved to Trieste/Monfalcone around the time before or after the war.

According the Wikipedia, in 1906 for every 1000 enlisted men in the Austro-Hungarian army, there were 26 ethnic Slovenes and 14 ethnic Italians.

Here's a good starter on the regiments Italians and Slovenes tended to serve in (although they are presumably also represented in the unspecified "various")
