Trawling thru' the men on Dudley's war memorial in these records, I've just come across a man whose widow was seemingly denied a pension.

(Pte 46882 J E Baker, 9th Worcs FYI)

Can anyone offer a suggestion as to what the abbreviation means?

Looks like an Additional Pension scheme - lack of notification of late husbands Pre War Earnings.

Yes, p.w.e. is pre war earnings. As Craig has rightly suggested this is probably taken from an "alternative" pension ledger and these cases were designed to be a function of earnings prior to the war.

Given the fact this is a clip from an alternative pension, there should be another ledger for the same man representing the first pension claim (ie prior to the claim for the "alternative" pension)
