Guest Posted 25 December , 2018 Posted 25 December , 2018 After internet searching, I have not been able to identify these binoculars, with both brass and bare metal parts. I hope the photos (not the best) will help. Thanks to all Vic
MikB Posted 25 December , 2018 Posted 25 December , 2018 These look like a French-made civilian model that was extensively distributed by British makers like Ross and Lizars from about 1910. Allegedly many of them found their way to the Australian Light Horse Brigade, but I don't know how that worked or whether any of those could've come via Ross. If they were ever offically issued in the RN, there'd be a Broad Arrow, most likely an 'S.<n>' Special grading with a registration number, and possibly an 'N' for Naval. I can't read all the writing, especially on the LH prism casing endplate, but it doesn't look like British WD marking to me. They're of the right period, but in all likelihood these were a private purchase, possibly pre-war, that could have been used in any of the services.
