pjwmacro Posted 15 December , 2018 Share Posted 15 December , 2018 Sqn unconfirmed - but probably 31 Sqn. A page from my grandfather's (A/Sgt Ernest Macro - 22 Bty MMGS) photo album of his time in India during the Great War and 3rd Afghan War. At Gondal in 1919. I think probably linked to a MGC Concentration and Demonstration Camp. Photos on the opposite page are captioned as such. Regards, Paul
Kimberley John Lindsay Posted 15 December , 2018 Share Posted 15 December , 2018 (edited) Dear Paul, Super! Thanks for the 1919 BE2c album photos: possibly of 31 Sqn, taken by Sgt Ernest Macro. I attach for your interest part of the saga of one of the Pilots (G. D. Longfellow, who died in India after leaving the RAF), whose medals and portrait some lucky collector holds - and details as well as the medals of a 31 Sqn Observer (2/Lieut David Thomson, RAF), in my collection. Perhaps you could beam me individuell scans of those four photos, please? thelindsayhouse@web.de I would be more than grateful! Kindest regards, Kim. quemerford Posted 16 December , 2018 Share Posted 16 December , 2018 Aircraft shown are BE.2e: note unequal-span wings of this later version.

Thanks for the clarification quemerford.I suspect the photos were taken autumn 1919 - but that's just my best guess. Regards, Paul

Thanks for sharing Kim. These photos are too secure to extract and scan individually - I can probably do photos of them - give some time to have a go. Kimberley John Lindsay Posted 16 December , 2018 Share Posted 16 December , 2018 Dear Paul, Yes, I quite understand that the album is fragile, and flattening it on a scanner perhaps not quite the best way to treat it. Photos? Super. By all means let me pay for any expenses involved. Son Philip (39) took a picture of the medal naming today: 2/Lieut. D. THOMSON, R.A.F. (BWM and Victory); F-OFFR. D. THOMSON, R.A.F. (IGS). Kindest regards, Kim.
