Admin DavidOwen Posted 11 December , 2018 Admin Share Posted 11 December , 2018 Hello Jo According to his Medal Index Card he initially served in France (1915) [Image courtesy of Ancestry Free access]. According to the Long Long Trail the 2nd Bn did move to Salonika in late November 1915 so you are most probably correct. https://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/army/regiments-and-corps/the-british-infantry-regiments-of-1914-1918/gloucestershire-regiment/ The war diary for the time spent in France can be found here http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7353478 (an also on Ancestry if you have it) For their time in Salonika I think you may need to look for 27 Division but hopefully an expert will be along to assist with that. Good luck with your research Regards David
MaxD Posted 11 December , 2018 Share Posted 11 December , 2018 (edited) In the absence of an expert, Two diaries for the Salonika period: First part in this http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C4558045 Second part in this http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C4558048 Unfortunately neither has been digitised so not on Ancestry. There appears to be no published history of 27 Division but a Google search on "27 Division in Salonika" brings up a number of possibilities for material to shed light. A real expert may have suggestions. Max Edited 11 December , 2018 by MaxD Suggestion
