Kat Posted 5 December , 2018 Share Posted 5 December , 2018 (edited) Hi I have this base from a shell that I would love someone to help me identify a little more info on if possible please! I can see it's a 13 pounder from 1916, but if anyone knows any of the other markings I would be grateful thanks. peregrinvs Posted 5 December , 2018 Share Posted 5 December , 2018 Canadian made MkII 13 Pounder cartridge case, (not shell) inspected and passed on 17th August 1916. Loaded with a full charge. (CF) I don’t know who the maker AHQ is.
Kat Posted 5 December , 2018 Author Share Posted 5 December , 2018 Ah thank you 😊 sorry I’m very new to this... can I ask how you know it’s Canadian made- or is that the mk11 bit? Thanks

Kat Posted 5 December , 2018 Author Share Posted 5 December , 2018 Thank you 😊 I take it there is no way of knowing where it would have been sent to once constructed? And am am I right in thinking the smaller marks inside are from inspections?
jay dubaya Posted 5 December , 2018 Share Posted 5 December , 2018 Mk III primer with 2 inspection marks and made by GEC - General Electric Company (UK), primers I believe were always made by separate contractors. I can only guess at the 'Q' in AHQ relates to a company in Quebec. No way of knowing exactly where it was sent other than the Western Front. 14276265 Posted 5 December , 2018 Share Posted 5 December , 2018 (edited) The cartridge case was made by the Canadian Cartridge Co., Hamilton - Concentric CCO monogram above the letters AHQ; the letters are the lot code. The primer was filled at National Filing Factory No.7, Hayes in July 1917. 265 Edited 5 December , 2018 by 14276265 Typo
