Chris_Baker Posted 30 November , 2018 Share Posted 30 November , 2018 I have just read newspaper reports of the sinking of a German destroyer at Zeebrugge on 23 May 1918 by being bombed from the air by the RAF. I'd like to connect this up with a Distinguished Flying Medal awarded to a British air gunner/observer, as his citation refers to such an event but gives no specifics. Some of the missing pieces are the name of the destroyer and the precise location and time. I'd be grateful for any leads.
seaJane Posted 30 November , 2018 Share Posted 30 November , 2018 The Times is irritatingly coy about the name, but the second of these does at least give you a precise location:-
seaJane Posted 30 November , 2018 Share Posted 30 November , 2018 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_shipwrecks_in_May_1918 gives SMS Direktor Schwarz as sunk on this date, but no location, and it was a Vorpostenboot.

Could it be V 74, damaged by an explosion in Zeebrugge Harbour on 25 May 1918? It was later scuttled in Brugge on 3 October 1918. Jan
