charlie962 Posted 22 November , 2018 Share Posted 22 November , 2018 John, Welcome to the forum. His service record is at the National Archives under this reference WO 339/33012 Not directly relevant but I see he has a 1921 US patent for wireless signalling aparatus. charlie962 Posted 22 November , 2018 Share Posted 22 November , 2018 The Eton College register says this, about AA Hall, RE Lieutenant R.E. France, E.Africa, Gallipoli
charlie962 Posted 22 November , 2018 Share Posted 22 November , 2018 The Signal Service work done by the RE in France is covered in this Official History. I don't know if it answers any of your questions. Since your GF served in otherTheatres it will be more difficult to find a history (I'm not sure whether the others were published). But the key is to find the actual units he served with then go to the relevant War Diary. For that you see what his service record says. John Hall Posted 23 November , 2018 Author Share Posted 23 November , 2018 Charlie His personal diary with hand drawn maps. fascinating insight into a forgotten bit of the war. I have applied for copies of his service record. Strangely they have spelt his name wrong which might account for the search difficulty! Athelstan but in the record its Athelston.
