Berkorichard Posted 13 November , 2018 Share Posted 13 November , 2018 As part of my ongoing research into servicemen who returned from the war from my local village, I am currently looking at Gunner Harry Carter. His medal card shows him serving with the RFA with two service numbers - 951 which was later replaced with 890737. His date in the field is shown as France, 18th November 1915. The 1918 Absent Voters list shows him serving at the time with 54th DOC (1st Section) FRA. Can anyone advise what 'DOC' stands for? According to my records 54th Division did not serve in France. jay dubaya Posted 13 November , 2018 Share Posted 13 November , 2018 More likely DAC - Divisional Ammunition Column. His two numbers suggest a TF soldier renumbered during the early months of 1917 the six digit number being part of the block allocated to the 55th DAC RFA
Berkorichard Posted 16 January , 2019 Author Share Posted 16 January , 2019 Thanks. This is not the first time the Absent Voters lists have proved inaccurate
