John Shaw Posted 17 January , 2005 Share Posted 17 January , 2005 Has anybody any knowlage of the current state of our war graves in Iraq? John
Terry Denham Posted 17 January , 2005 Share Posted 17 January , 2005 John Initial tidying up work was done in some locations by coalition forces but that is all at the moment. Not all the locations in Iraq are in a bad state. CWGC intends to return to all sites and renovate them in due course. The timescale depends on events. The Basra Memorial has been deemed unfitting as a memorial site and will be replaced - hopefully by a new memorial in Iraq at some point. Meanwhile there is a temporary Book of Remembrance available at CWGC's HQ in Maidenhead. CWGC works on very long timescales and is determined to return to restore the cemeteries if at all possible. It will be a long time yet before the situation is resolved.

John Shaw Posted 19 January , 2005 Author Share Posted 19 January , 2005 Thankyou Whitehorse The site you recomended is superb, it is great to see our lads restoring the graves. Lets hope that with the peace the graves will be left alone and maybe one day we can visit and pay our respects. John
