Hi. Does anyone know which unit built two bridges over the River Struma . The bridges are Jungle Island bridge and Gun bridge. I would suppose they were built by Royal engineers but would like to know which units. Many Thanks.

Hi . I have been looking through every book that I have on the Salonika Campaign for information on which unit built these two bridges and I think I have found the answer. In Military Operations in Macedonia page 175 it states BRIDGING THE STRUMA. Three bridges were constructed by the Royal Engineers of the 10th Division, one to take field artillery and two footbridges. A footnote to this states , this was good work by the 66th Field Company also the map states that Gun Bridge was also known as Wessex Bridge so in all probability these two footbridges were built by the 1st Wessex Field Company, 66th Field Company R E ,10th Division.
