Mark1959 Posted 7 November , 2018 Share Posted 7 November , 2018 (edited) London Gazette Citations MC https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/30466/supplement/581 and next page Bar https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/30915/supplement/11280 Croix de Guerre Listing https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/31109/supplement/312 The MC Registers indicate the MC was for actions near Ypres 25/7/1917. The same source indicates the Bar was for actions at Ville-en-Tardenois (near Reims) on 30/5/1918 The C De G is likely to have been for general good service rather than something specific, Struggling to find a relevant War Diary Edited 7 November , 2018 by Mark1959

Admin DavidOwen Posted 11 December , 2018 Admin Share Posted 11 December , 2018 Welcome to the forum! I am no expert on batteries of the artillery so this comes with a significant "health warning" and you may probably be better off waiting for an expert. But nothing ventured nothing gained.... According to the Long Long Trail 55 (Howitzer) Battery was originally part of 37 Brigade transferring to 8 Division in May 1915 http://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/army/regiments-and-corps/the-royal-artillery-in-the-first-world-war/batteries-and-brigades-of-the-royal-field-artillery/xxxvii-howitzer-brigade-of-the-royal-field-artillery/ Consequently it may be that the diary you need for 1917/1918 is under 8th Division..... but I think it is going to need an expert to sort it out for you. Never fear one will be along shortly! I haven't been able to find his service papers, do you know if he served post war? If he did the papers should be available via the MOD.
