John Shaw Posted 15 January , 2005 Share Posted 15 January , 2005 I have aquired a Belgium 14/18 campaign medal, however I was not aware that the name of the recipient was on the same. The name is EJ De BREMAECKER. Is this of any use to others. How many countries inscribed the name of the medal winner? John
Neil Burns Posted 15 January , 2005 Share Posted 15 January , 2005 Hi John, That's actually the name of the designer of the medal, not the receipient. I've never seen one of these named but perhaps some of the Belgian pals have. Does it have any bars or devices on the ribbon? Take care, Neil
John Shaw Posted 15 January , 2005 Author Share Posted 15 January , 2005 Thanks Neil The name embossed on the obverse was done after manufacture as were the initials E D B on the reverse, could they have been done by the recipient? John
John Shaw Posted 15 January , 2005 Author Share Posted 15 January , 2005 Niel The ribbon is clean apart from two steel pins on the reverse presumably for attaching same to soldier. John
Neil Burns Posted 16 January , 2005 Share Posted 16 January , 2005 Hi John, That's the designers name runs from roughly 3 o'clock (down to up) E.J. DeBremarcker ends roughly 1 o'clock on the obverse; on the reverse initials EDB lower right hand corner. It appears on all medals, does look post-production though. These often appear with service bars, anchors, crosses etc. denoting service on the ribbons. Take care, Neil
John Shaw Posted 16 January , 2005 Author Share Posted 16 January , 2005 Thanks Neil It's a shame that the designer has his name on the medal but not the soldier. John
