Sue L Posted 21 October , 2018 Share Posted 21 October , 2018 Hello all Now I am finished with my 82 Bilsdale Men I am returning to my other project which is 13 men and 1 woman from Stone, Worcestershire I am currently looking into the woman - Dorothy Bateman Maddocks born Nov 1900 died 14 Oct 1918 from Tubercular Meningitis at the London Fever Hospital. She was in the Woman's Army Aux Corps and at the time of her death, her address was given as the Guard's Depot Caterham. Can anyone tell me what type of work someone like Dorothy might have been doing at Caterham or anything else that might be of interest All information welcome Thanks Sue
Ron Clifton Posted 22 October , 2018 Share Posted 22 October , 2018 She could have been a cook, a mess waitress, a clerk/typist, or a driver. The last surviving WW1 veteran was in fact a lady mess waitress with the RAF. Ron
alf mcm Posted 22 October , 2018 Share Posted 22 October , 2018 Sue, She doesn't have a medal record card, so probably didn't serve abroad. I t also looks as if her service record has not survived. Regards, Alf McM
