Travelgirl154 Posted 18 October , 2018 Share Posted 18 October , 2018 Can anybody tell me what the reddish patch is near this soldier's left elbow please? I know that he is in Royal Scots and has a likely machine gun proficiency badge on his left wrist (he later transferred to the Machine Gun Corps). Rob B Posted 18 October , 2018 Share Posted 18 October , 2018 I rather think the red mark is a blemish/mark on the photo.
Travelgirl154 Posted 18 October , 2018 Author Share Posted 18 October , 2018 It had crossed my mind but I wasn't sure! It did seem an odd place.
FROGSMILE Posted 18 October , 2018 Share Posted 18 October , 2018 (edited) I agree with Rob that it’s a blemish, black and white photos don’t generally show other colours. I presume he is 9th Battalion Royal Scots given the kilt? Edited 18 October , 2018 by FROGSMILE
Travelgirl154 Posted 18 October , 2018 Author Share Posted 18 October , 2018 His service record states 14th Bn - after enlistment he went to Glencorse in Nov 1916, but then it says he was posted to 14th Bn 3 days later so I'm not sure where he did his training. Generally the Royal Scots did not wear kilts apart from a single Territorial Force Battalion and its own 2nd and 3rd line units. This was because it was a Lowland Regiment.
