I have my grandfather's war diaries for 1916/17. His name was William BROWN ANDERS.

He mentions General Pitcairn Camble; General Shae; Capt McConnor; Royle; H. Thomas; Haywood; Southworth; Proven.

Hi Glynis

 They have a website www.liverpoolscottish.org.uk

You'll find the relevant email address for an enquiry on their contacts page.

They will most probably have used Joe's database for their info but they would be interested in seeing the photo and you never know their curator Dennis Reeves might spot a face or two (a bit of a long shot but you never know) and he may have added a bit of info to what Joe has given him.

From the back ground it looks as though they are in Blackpool probably outside the house they were billeted in.

Definitely get in touch with the Liverpool Scottish Museum though especially to show them the photo.

Hi John,

The actor Basil Rathbone took part in a few patrols of no man's land. On one occasion he won a Military Cross.

The Curator of the Liverpool Scottish Museum Dennis Reeves is an expert on Basil Rathbone's time with the Liverpool Scots. There is also a book 'Bravest of Hearts' that details several patrols and raids of the kind you're interested in, that the battalion took part in.

www.liverpoolscottish.org.uk

The contacts page for the website should have the details of the book plus other an email address on how to get more info on the battalion.

Glynis,

Just wondering whether you found out anything about William Brown Anders. I know that the Liverpool Scottish would be interested in seeing the photo of him.

www.liverpoolscottish.org.uk

is their website.
