Well have a look at this, under A-B (it is not necessarily comprehensive, but pretty good).

You're the uniform collector - what are the collar badges?

Interesting that he's apparently got an MC and the 1914 star (?) but no BWM or victory medal.  Presumably the 1914 Star which was instituted April 1917 so it could presumably appear without the other two?   He must have won the MC (as an officer) either on the ground or in the air before June 1918 when the DFC came in.  Yet he was still only a 2nd Lt in 1917/18 - presumably he was in the ranks in 1914 and only commissioned in 1917.  So MC (if genuine) probably awarded for something done in the air.  I'd have a go at spotting him if I knew my regimental badges!

Could the collar badges be Manchester Regt?

No. As Arantxa says they are the GS collars:

Dear pierssc,

The attached picture taken of Russell's Infantry, IA, at Peshawar, 1919, shows various styles of ribbons worn at that sitting: 14 Star ribbons, a single MC ribbon, a 14 Star and BWM (!) ribbon pair, and the C.O, seems to have the BWM and Victory pair...

Kindest regards,
