I am sorry to say he is not listed in the Roll Of Honour book (Birmingham) which is kept on display in the Hall of Memory, Broad Street.

Looking at the Commonwealth War Graves site I see he is commemorated on the Tehran Memorial and he was attached to the Indian Postal and Telegraph Unit.

Hi Russell

Only a small percentage of attestation papers survived the WW2 Blitz. If his papers survived then they will be at the National Archives at Kew. You will have to go and look your self or pay for someone to look for you. Unless anyone else on this Forum is kind enough to offer their services .

However, I would say, there is very little chance of finding much more info on on C V Russell. Checking the 1901 Census, by the way, I saw two Christopher Russell's, the one was aged one the other was in his twenties.

Why the interest in him?

Regards

Dear Terry

Thanks for your reply

CV Russell was my Grandmothers brother

The interest is obviously family but also i am named after him

Being a brummie as well - his is an interesting case

Having travelled with the Cheshire to the Middle East - the thread dries up

He is stated as joing the Indian Postal & Telegraph Co - i have no further info

He became ill (As many dis in this theatre) and was hospitalised - my Cousin has a full sized flag that he stitched whilst in Hospital- i will try and scan an image as it is quite impressive

I have his Death Plaque and medal although i know very little else

His sister settled in Ward End where she died in the 70s

I suppose im just nosy to know more

Regards

Russell
