Guest Posted 23 September , 2018 Share Posted 23 September , 2018 Can anyone please help me with my Grandfathers record of service with the Army Service Corp (Mechanical Transport) 1) Trouble with the name of the troop ship which is quoted bringing him home from Egypt in 1919. See Attachment for snips of record. I have the names which took him to Mudros and them to Alexandria so it would be nice to complete. 2) He spent a lot of time on the Suez Canal detached to Motor Boat Corps as a Coxswain. Has anyone got any photos of any of the boats/barges that he might possibly of been on. Thanks in advance. E Bowen
Jrmh Posted 23 September , 2018 Share Posted 23 September , 2018 Could be Goenboer mentioned arriving in Suez from Rotterdam 21 May 1902 here in the London Standard: https://newspaperarchive.com/london-standard-may-21-1902-p-8/
MerchantOldSalt Posted 23 September , 2018 Share Posted 23 September , 2018 I think it is possibly more likely to be the GOENTOER of 1902 owned by Rotterdamsche Lloyd, she was taken up as an Army Transport in 1918 and returned to her owners in 1919 which fits your timescale.
