BillyH Posted 22 August , 2018 Share Posted 22 August , 2018 Thanks for that mb, a really nice 'modern' memorial. I was nearby at the Rhynie memorial last year (on holiday) also excellent. I will be up there again in a week or two and I will look that cairn up. BillyH.
Steven Broomfield Posted 22 August , 2018 Share Posted 22 August , 2018 (edited) One might observe that a reduced water service in the Highlands of Scotland must require a degree of organisational incompetence seldom achieved. Lovely memorial: as Billy says, 'modern' too. Edited 22 August , 2018 by Steven Broomfield

Lovely memorial: as Billy says, 'modern' too. It is reduced "Winter" service! Quite common on the quieter hill routes, to indicate that the roads are not gritted and ploughed in Winter. 35 minutes ago, BillyH said: Thanks for that mb, a really nice 'modern' memorial. I believe they got someone to give them a lesson in building dry stone walls then built the cairn from locally found rocks.

BillyH Posted 16 September , 2018 Share Posted 16 September , 2018 (edited) Just adding a bit to this. I was on holiday in the area last week and visited the new Cairn Memorial that mb photographed. Cabrach church is a good way up the road but I had a wander around the churchyard. There is just one Great War casualty in there but several commemorations to casualties buried overseas. The church was locked up but Mrs BillyH alerted me to the fact that there was a brass plaque inside the church. The photo below is not the best, but it was taken through the window into a dark church and it is readable. BillyH. mbriscoe Posted 16 September , 2018 Author Share Posted 16 September , 2018 I did not get chance to look around the area, I was told there was something in the community hall but it was locked. I tried an EMail to the Trust afterwards but no reply. But did not get that far down the road. Is it this church? https://canmore.org.uk/site/126744/cabrach-parish-church-and-war-memorial Not bad for through a window! I was uploading some of Achahoish last week. There is no power there so no lighting and the Roll of Honour was on the wall between two windows. I was surprised how good my images was! Perhaps you would like to add the image there, you can upload direct to Canmore after registering. Do you send War Memorial pictures to the IWM War Memorial Register? I can upload there for you if you wish?
BillyH Posted 16 September , 2018 Share Posted 16 September , 2018 Yes I think that is it on the map. There is is a photo of the church below, it's very isolated! I don't really have the time to do the IWM Register, I just enjoy looking around Morayshire for memorials and churchyards when I am up there on holiday. BillyH. BillyH Posted 14 September , 2020 Share Posted 14 September , 2020 Just refreshing this one. I was passing the memorial last week and a nice pair of gates have now been added, probably in the last 12 months. BillyH.
