Constantlypuzzled Posted 12 August , 2018 Share Posted 12 August , 2018 Hi, I'm trying to trace the movements of a John Russell White, RAF service record attached. I can see he enlisted with the RFC as a boy artificer in January 1918, transferring to the RAF April 1918. The unit to which he transferred was 9TDS( Shawbury, if I've understood an earlier post). Does the attached service record mean he remained there until June 1919 when he transferred to the RAF reserve? I cant read all the comments in section 3 other than he volunteered in February 1919 for "the period of occupation" I know he spent much of his adult life in Egypt (Alexandria and Cairo) and was latterly an engineer for BOAC on flying boats at Rod el Farag. Is there any indication on the record that he was stationed there with the RAF? Also, whats the difference between a TS and TDS? Thanks for any assistance you are able to give. nieuport11 Posted 13 August , 2018 Share Posted 13 August , 2018 (The image is attached to a previous duplicate post) There is no evidence he transferred to any other unit. The training units were initially known as Reserve Squadrons They then became Training Squadrons. In 1918 the Squadrons at each location were combined into Training Depot Stations
Constantlypuzzled Posted 13 August , 2018 Author Share Posted 13 August , 2018 Thanks for your help. First time posting on the forum and found the process a wee tad confusing, hence duplication I've attached the image now. I guess I need to look for other reasons for him ending up in Egypt. Thanks again REgards, Jeanett H (still puzzled!)
