Remembered Today:

Etienne Mondineu

Recommended Posts

This painting has been in the possession of Blue Cross for many, many years: it depicts a wounded poilu and his wounded Briard attending a Blue Cross dressing station during the Great War. Until today I had no idea who painted it, but I have now been told it was done by Etienne Mondineu (afraid I can't do accents), whose picture is also attached 9and what a splendidly-'tached chap he is, too).

Nice to get the answer to a question and so out of the blue! The painting hangs adjacent to Matania's Goodbye Old Man in the meeting room here at the Victoria hospital

Nice find Steven

Strangely, a quick search for images related to Mondineu fails to bring up this picture, though it does appear on a website about briards:

Here are more pictures of poilus by Mondineu

That's where my colleague found it. Nice dogs and they make remarkably fine cheese.

Ah the mere mention of 'Goodbye old Man' brings a tear to the eye.
