Steven Broomfield Posted 6 August , 2018 Share Posted 6 August , 2018 This painting has been in the possession of Blue Cross for many, many years: it depicts a wounded poilu and his wounded Briard attending a Blue Cross dressing station during the Great War. Until today I had no idea who painted it, but I have now been told it was done by Etienne Mondineu (afraid I can't do accents), whose picture is also attached 9and what a splendidly-'tached chap he is, too). Nice to get the answer to a question and so out of the blue! The painting hangs adjacent to Matania's Goodbye Old Man in the meeting room here at the Victoria hospital
Martin Bennitt Posted 6 August , 2018 Share Posted 6 August , 2018 Nice find Steven Strangely, a quick search for images related to Mondineu fails to bring up this picture, though it does appear on a website about briards: http://www.briardsdunouveau.com/what-is-a-briard.html Here are more pictures of poilus by Mondineu https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b103159574 cheers Martin B
