Sly Posted 9 July , 2018 Share Posted 9 July , 2018 Hi there, Not sure exactly where to post this... I went to visit Belleau wood and also the German cemetery nearby, it was just a couple of days after the American commemoration. I was reading the visitor's book and was "surprised" (don't know if it's the right term ?) to see that this message from an American visitor: a finger print with blood , his name and the words "Wonderful memories" . I have been to many (many!) WW1 cemeteries but I have never seen a such inscription. I am French and English is not my native language, I don't understand the exact meaning of the blood and the use of the term "Wonderful" in that case , does it really mean what I think it is ? BillyH Posted 9 July , 2018 Share Posted 9 July , 2018 The blood is a bit gruesome, but I think the visitor has actually written "Wonderful Memorial" and not Wonderful Memories? BillyH.
