Errol Martyn Posted 8 July , 2018 Share Posted 8 July , 2018 The following abbreviations appear on various records for 2nd Lt (later Major) Samuel Blackley (his full name) who served with the RFC, RAF and Ministry of Munitions 9 Nov 1916 - 28 Jul 1919. Any assistance with their full meaning would be most welcome: AEO (Assistant Equipment Officer? He later became an Equipment Officer 3rd then 2nd Class) DAE (Directorate of Aircraft Equipment?) AE.4 (a branch of the above, but what does the '4' indicate?) If anyone has come across Samuel Blackley during their researches I would be interested in hearing from them also. SB was a Scot and exceptional electrical engineer who migrated to New Zealand in 1905 and died here in 1963. Upon his return to New Zealand in early 1920 he established Vickers New Zealand Limited in Wellington as a branch of the well-known British armaments and aircraft company. He was managing director of the branch until 1925. Cheers, Errol
