This summer, the Lloyd's Register Foundation Heritage and Education Centre are holding a series of FREE summer lectures that delve deeper into the story and history of the Lloyd's Register. These talks form part of a new programme of events to get more people engaged with our archive and collections and help fulfil our mission to advance education for the benefit of society.

 

2018 marks the centenary of the end of the First World War, a campaign which cost millions of lives and ushered in the age of modern warfare. The Lloyd's Register and its employees played an integral role in the war and our records tell a fascinating story. Inevitably, members of LR staff 'joined colours' and fought in the war. Fifteen of these men died either in battle or as a result of their injuries and are commemorated on our memorial. 

 

The legacy of the First World War is still relevant today and to mark the end of the war, the HEC team will be delivering a lecture exploring the lives and stories of the men commemorated on our memorial as well as the role Lloyd's Register played in the war. 

 

There will be a drinks reception from 17.30 with the lecture beginning at 18.00.
