Jools mckenna Posted 27 June , 2018 Share Posted 27 June , 2018 (edited) Bought this recently, was sold to me as a french 1882 infantry officers sword (that was found on the Somme) but the blade is different and the hilt looks like 1822 style hilt. The blade reminds me of that of an 1822 British cavalry sword because of the piped back. The blade is about 93 cm long. I have found a very similar sword being sold as Belgian cavalry sword http://www.theswordpattern.co.uk/Belgian_Sword_Auguste_Fonson_p/bel.htm Edited 11 July , 2018 by Jools mckenna

Regards, Terry Well, it had some sort of coating, so I had to use fine wire wool. After that I used brasso to clean the brass but I will have to clean it more. Terry_11 Posted 13 July , 2018 Share Posted 13 July , 2018 Jools, Thank you. I have an E VII Artillery officer's sword with a very tarnished hilt/basket. I will try in an inconspicuous place. Regards, Terry
