ALANJONES Posted 23 June , 2018 Share Posted 23 June , 2018 I wonder if anyone has a copy of 'Deeds that Thrill the Empire - Vol 1' please? On Page 196, I believe, there is an illustration of Cpl W Scothern, 122nd Heavy Battery, RGA undertaking the 'Deed' for which he was awarded the DCM in April 1915 (during Second Ypres and the first gas attack). If so, I would be very grateful for a good scan of this image - and also any details of the copyright holder [if available]. Many thanks! best wishes, Alan

ALANJONES Posted 23 June , 2018 Author Share Posted 23 June , 2018 Many thanks 'IPT' - very sorry to waste your time - I had seen this image online (from a different link!) but I was trying to get a scan of the original book image at better quality for possible publication (hence my copyright sub-question). Nevertheless, given the 'style' of illustrations of that period it give a good impression of the then surrounding countryside between Ypres and Zonnebeke (where the incident took place), of the shell explosions then being encountered and also the simple equipment our hero was using to fix a frequent problem. Thanks very much again for taking the time to look yourself and google! best wishes Alan
