JMB1943 Posted 24 May , 2018 Share Posted 24 May , 2018 I have some questions regarding this topic, especially in the period late 1914 to early 1915. Was leave granted, 1) at any point during the 3-6 month training? 2) immediately prior to embarking for France? 3) with paid travel warrants provided? 4) with how much notice, if any, provided before embarking? charlesmessenger Posted 25 May , 2018 Share Posted 25 May , 2018 Training either took place within a New Army/TF battalion or in a Reserve battalion/regimental depot. A week's leave would certainly have been granted during training. As many men as possible would have been given leave over Christmas 1914 or, particularly for Scots, the New Year. Especially when a unit was about to go overseas, a week's leave would also have been granted. Notice of leave would have been a matter of a couple of weeks or even days. Paid railway warrants were granted in each case. Charles M
