Join us at Lancaster Castle as we explore local stories of the First World War and learn about key events which occurred in the city and here at the Castle. Lancaster Castle was used as a Prisoner of War camp for German officers and internees during the Great War (1914 – 1918).A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITYOver the weekends living history event, experience first-hand the uniforms, weapons, munitions, food rations and living conditions of a World War I army regiment. On display will be a Vickers machine gun and a full size WWI tank** and a 19th century steam powered fire engine. Relive history in the company of soldiers. Learn more about the life of peace activists, conscientious objectors, the local constabulary and even the famous Munitionette’s – the women who worked at the White Lund munitions factory, one of the largest munitions depot in the country; learn about its spectacular explosion in 1917, and the steam fire engines which attended from all over the county. £3 entry per person (under 5's free). Pay on arrival.
