Son of Henry and Edith Whiteway of Slewton House, Whimple, Devon and Kennington [51 Kennington Oval]

Commemorated on the war memorials at Whimple and St Mark's Oval, London and with a family plaque in St Marks

Quite by chance I was in St Mark's Church yesterday and noticed that it was the centenary of Victor Whiteway's death from wounds.  His sister had been granted permission to visit him at No1 Red Cross Hospital, Le Touquet shortly before his death.

His family ran a cider company in the East Devon village of Whimple and produced a popular, non alcoholic drink called Peardrax.

May captain Whiteway rest in peace. Hopefully his poor parents somehow overcame the pain of his death.
