Guest mkacer Posted 6 January , 2005 Share Posted 6 January , 2005 Hi, I found this group via Google trying to find information on a medal that a friend showed me. He was given it by a relative and he knows little about it. All I have found is that it is a WWI era medal given by the British Empire, possibly from the Canadian Medical Corps. It appears to be silver. One side has a profile of a man, presumably George the 5th facing left. Georgius V Britt: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP: is written around the edge. The other side has the years 1914 and 1918 on the edges with a man on a horse. Below the horseman is a skull and shield. The horse has a long mane and what appears to be the Sun is above the horse's head, which is on the right side of the medal. The attached ribbon appears to be orange, with thin stripes radiating outward. The colors go white, black, and then light blue, maybe a sea foam color on the outside edge. It is too faded to give an accurate description of the original colors. Any help you could give me in determining the history of this medal would be of great value to my friend. Neil Burns Posted 6 January , 2005 Share Posted 6 January , 2005 Hi and welcome to the forum. It is a British War Medal there should be a name engraved on the rim. Once you tell us what's on the rim, we can give you some more information. Take care, Neil
Pte1643 Posted 7 January , 2005 Share Posted 7 January , 2005 Hi mkacer As Neil said it's a British War Medal, more commonly abbreviated to BWM. Awarded to British and Commonwealth troops, so there is a Canadian connection if you were wondering. Here is a picture Mark.
Guest mkacer Posted 7 January , 2005 Share Posted 7 January , 2005 That's exactly what he has! I'll try and get it back from my friend so I can get the engraving off the rim to see if that will help you give me any detailed information about it. Thank you for your help so far.
