Shiny Posted 23 April , 2018 Share Posted 23 April , 2018 Hi All, I have found a medal roll for Nurse Dorothy Dale who served with the British Committee, French Red Cross and was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal. The dates appear to show Oct - Nov 1918 but every record on the page appears to have quite short dates so I'm not sure if that's relevant. I have a relative called Dorothy Dale who was born 23rd July 1894 in Newcastle and I'm trying to find out if this is the same person. Can anyone help me with this as I really don't know where to look for nurses records. Thanks a lot, Michael
MikeyH Posted 23 April , 2018 Share Posted 23 April , 2018 The British Red Cross online archive is 'temporarily unavailable until April 2018'. Mike.

Michael, The British Red Cross archive can be searched at Findmypast https://search.findmypast.co.uk/results/world-records/british-army-british-red-cross-society-volunteers-1914-1918?firstname=dorothy&firstname_variants=true&lastname=dale , but does not include images of the record cards. Unfortunately it looks like 'your' Dorothy Dale is not recorded. Regards, Alf McM
alf mcm Posted 23 April , 2018 Share Posted 23 April , 2018 Michael, Just noticed from Sue Light's Scarletfinders that Dorothy worked as an Orderly at Royaumont. http://www.scarletfinders.co.uk/137.html You may want to get a copy of the book 'Angels of Mercy', which tells the story of the hospital at Royaumont. Shiny Posted 23 April , 2018 Author Share Posted 23 April , 2018 (edited) Thanks for the tip off Mike, I had no idea there was such an archive available, I'll keep checking. Alf that is brilliant, thank you very much, I hadn't heard of the organisation or the hospital but I've read up on it now. If this turns out to be the same person that is a great bit of detail about her. The medal roll does have SWH typed in the corner but I didn't think anything of it. Thanks again, Michael Edited 23 April , 2018 by Shiny
