This is a Cap badge{a smaller badge was worn by WO's on the Sleeve}as it has a Slider the Badge in "Bronze"ie Brown,or Gilt Metal was worn by Officers of the General List,ie unassigned to a Particular Service Regiment,The Badge as this one; in Brass{Gilding Metal} was worn by Members of the Labour Corps,prior to them being given the Rifle,Pick & Shovel Badge in 1918,It was also more commonly worn by the General Service Corps in late WW2

Very helpfully. That dates it to being my grandads as was to old for call up for WWII and we have his Defence Medal from then, when we understand he was civil defence in the Isle of Man
