Malcolm - I am looking for the entries around 3rd Sept 1916 - my best friend's great grandfather was kia on that day - Ferdinand Beckworth

Would mean a lot to him to have the diary entry for that date

Thanks

Woody

Woody,

Sorry, 1917 entry only. It will be available at the PRO and some nice PAL might get a copy for you hopefully. The Somme day-by-Day Acount attached. The action was near St Pierre Divion.

Aye

Malcolm

The following gives indication of the location of the 17th.

MM citation in respect of 27675 Sgt , Brown W. 17th (Welbeck Rangers) Battalion L.G. 9.12.16

"Awarded for gallantry and devotion to duty during an attack on the enemy lines at Beaumont Hamel on 3rd September 1916".

Four further awards of the MM to this battalion on this date all the same wording for the citation.
