eagleeye Posted 5 January , 2005 Share Posted 5 January , 2005 Does anyone know how to trace where a particular Field Post Office was based? I have a postcard from a relative dated March 1918 with the stamp of Field Post Office 165 on it. Any suggestions Rod
Burtonian Posted 5 January , 2005 Share Posted 5 January , 2005 All it says in the Charles R Entwistle book for No 165 at that period is 'Western Front', not terribly helpful I'm afraid. All the best, Nick Miller.
Hindoo Stan Posted 16 November , 2005 Share Posted 16 November , 2005 Does anyone know how to trace where a particular Field Post Office was based? The best book on the subject is Alistair Kennedy & George Crabb. The Postal History of the British Army in WWI. 300pp A4 spiral bound. Difficult to find but a pal may have a copy. I don't think it's a definitive study so no guarantee your postal mark is in there. This should help you locate a likely unit. Tim.
Terry_Reeves Posted 16 November , 2005 Share Posted 16 November , 2005 I have a copy of the above mentioned book. You'll need to post a scan of it though, the style of the datestamp, can make a difference. Terry Reeves
gregs_yorkley Posted 21 April , 2006 Share Posted 21 April , 2006 Hi Terry, Is it possible for you to have a look at the attached postcard, and see if you can tell where the field post office 16 (I think) is. The family think the sender William Jones, was in France, but I'm now not so sure because of the printed text on the top. I will also send you a PM. Thanks Angela
