Medic7922 Posted 3 January , 2005 Share Posted 3 January , 2005 I have recently received a list of my grandfathers military Record, 211255 Pte George Lockwood of the 1st & 3rd East yorks he went to france on the 9th november 1914 and was badly wounded with shrapnal to hes chest and returned home 27th august 1915, I think he was wounded at the battle of Looes but I cannot find much on the east 1/3 yorks at that time. He later returned to France in a labour company in 1918 and discharged in 1919 My grandfather also was in South africa during the boar war from 1900 to 1903 again with the East yorks. Any information regarding the 1/3 East yorks during 1914/15 would be of a real help. Steve
KONDOA Posted 3 January , 2005 Share Posted 3 January , 2005 Morning Steve, The 3rd reserve Battalion according to the LLT remained in UK for the duration. The 1st Battalion going to France September 1914. The following War Diaries may be pertinent as would the LLT page covering the 6th Div. 6th Div. WO 95/1618 1 Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment 1914 Sept. - 1915 Nov. WO 95/5459 3 (Reserve) Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment 1914 Sept. - 1917 Dec I am a bit confused if you mean 1st Batt and 3rd Batt rather than 1/3rd the latter not knowingly in existance as such. Medic7922 Posted 3 January , 2005 Author Share Posted 3 January , 2005 Thanks for your reply, I am sorry to confuse you its seems that george Lockwood was first posted to the 3rd EY but reposted the next day to the 1st EY then went over to france. I have taken a look at LLT but there is not much on the 1st EY during september 1915 or I am not looking in the right direction ( I am new to this ) so would like to get some idea were my grandfather was wounded. I have also found hes brother Ptr Mark Lockwood of the 3rd Coldstream Gds he was killed at the Battle of the Marne 9th september 1914 and is buried at a little village of Boitron near Paris, this must make him one of the old contemptables as he join the army in the early 1900s, there is only 5 CWG at this churchground which is strange being a lot of soldiers were killed during the Battle. KONDOA Posted 3 January , 2005 Share Posted 3 January , 2005 Hi Steve, It is obviously very difficult in the web space afforded to detail all Battalions in all Divisions. Your best bet is to order online the war diary for the 1st Batt. if possible. HERE Go to SHOP on top bar and then Order Copies of Documents. That will give day to day detail regarding the activities. Your man who died on the Marne is certainly an Old Contemptible being in the old regular army at the outbreak of war. Roop
