Peter Le Duc Posted 4 February , 2018 Share Posted 4 February , 2018 Hi All, My Grandfather C A Le Duc 93301 D/36 RFA was Gazette for The MM on 23rd Feb 1918 and also awarded a Bar in the Gazette of 25th June 1918 whilst he was attached (I believe) to X/9 Med TM Bty. Although the Gazette doesn’t give unit details; through searching and cross-referencing the relevant Gazette supplements and the list of MM Recipients on Ancestry(searched by unit), I believe I have identified other soldiers from his unit(s) gazetted on the same day. My Question - Is it reasonable to assume that if they were gazetted on the same day, then they are likely to have won the awards for the same act/action? Gazetted on 23rd Feb 1918 Record only shows 36 Brigade H Anderson 68546 E J Bricknell 85348 E Camis 57797 A Child 74879 A Head 46081 F Smith 39896 Record shows D Battery 36 Brigade C A Le Duc 93301 H Kavanagh L/20135 Gazetted on 25th June 1918 J E Kitson 31331 X/9 Med TM Battery J Robinson 230234 X/9 Med TM Battery A E Runham 776958 Y/9 Med TM Battery C A Le’Duc 93301 (service record shows 9 TM Battery) Thanks Peter Sent from my iPad
Buffnut453 Posted 4 February , 2018 Share Posted 4 February , 2018 Not necessarily the same day/action but highly probable that they were awarded for actions during the same operation. For example, a relative of mine was awarded the MM for actions during the Passchendaele offensive 31 July - 4 August 1917. Several other members of his unit (1/3rd West Lancs Field Ambulance) were also gazetted with MM awards on the same date so it's almost certain their awards date from the same period...but not necessarily the same individual act. Hope this helps...a little. Cheers, Mark

On the MM Medel index cards there os a schedule number, if the same "MM action" the number will be sequential or occasionally the same. The same Operation the gap will be wider, different Op wider still. E.g my GGF Sjt Murray and Gunner Robinson named in 15 HAG War Diary for the same action the Schedule numbers below. SN 86853 Gnr Robinson SN 86852 Sjt Murray In your data Runham, Kitson and Robinson most likely the same action As is Camis & Child. Hope that makes sense. Peter Le Duc Posted 5 February , 2018 Author Share Posted 5 February , 2018 Hi Andy & Mark, Many thanks for your replies, they are most helpful. Andy, please can I ask where you find details of the schedule number? is there anywhere that has copies of the actual medalcards? Ancestry only seems to give summary info without any detail. thanks peter
