David Earley Posted 2 February , 2018 Share Posted 2 February , 2018 (edited) I am trying to find out when Robert McNaught enlisted. He was born in Glasgow in December 1881 and, prior to the war, was a hotel manager in Brighton, Sussex. He served with the Army Service Corps, Expeditionary Force Canteens in the Salonika campaign and died in the influenza pandemic on 22 September 1918. From Ancestry, I have located his Medal Index Card, his entry on the Medal Roll and his SDGW record, but not an entry in the Register of Soldiers Effects. Can anyone find out any more about him? What I have found so far, I have written up at http://www.sussexpeople.co.uk/staff-serjeant-robert-mcnaught/ Thanks as always for any help. Admin ss002d6252 Posted 2 February , 2018 Admin Share Posted 2 February , 2018 (edited) A/358141 and A/358142 were allocated on 11 July 1917 to canteen men so I'd expect McNaught was allocated soon afterwards. Without evidence of prior service or the war gratuity it's going to be very difficult to determine the particulars of the prior service.
