I seems to be a circle with a centre dot and two dots below. I presume the dotted lines are old trenches or paths? Possibly a few more upright houses and a few less trees than when my Great Grandfather briefly visited the area in 1918 but all in all quite similar! They are trees indeed but, if they are in red (or blue depending on the map), they depict trees that are additional to those depicted in the map following earlier surveys/printings. Dave.
