CWGC added the following casualties to the WW1 War Dead Roll today.

 

MIDGLEY, Gilbert Hardy

Gunner  72696

Royal Garrison Artillery

Died 24.03.16  Age 26

Commemorated: United Kingdom Book of Remembrance

 

MURRAY, Nathaniel
Regimental Serjeant Major  4581
2nd Dragoons (Royal Scots Greys)
Died 09.07.16  Age 36
Commemorated: United Kingdom Book of Remembrance

 

NOT FORGOTTEN

 

One of the above was an In From the Cold Project case

- RSM Murray died post-discharge of tuberculosis (Volunteer: John Houston)

We submitted Gunner Midgley's case for consideration on January 27, 2017, and we are delighted he's been accepted. I've added a transcription of the local newspaper's report on the 1916 coroner's inquest, to our blog here:

CWGC have informed that they have no evidence of his burial - do you have this please?

Strange, I thought we'd sent it all through to them and have a grave position for him which we confirmed with Bradford District Council's Bereavement Services. I'll PM a link through to you of my Dropbox folder with all the relevant documents for him. For now, here's the grave plan and listing for the grave in Utley Cemetery:

I have a list of the cleared cemeteries and the number of bodies moved from each (taken from the first edition of every register where shown).

Thanks very much for this Chris. We received notification from the Council Bereavements office that they had signed the relevant permission form a while back and we're now playing the waiting game for a headstone to appear.
