stuart rowles Posted 23 January , 2018 Share Posted 23 January , 2018 William John Russell Rowles died 22nd October 1917, age 19. He served with the 46th Battalion, Saskatchewan Regiment. He is buried at the 'Nine Elms' British Cemetery, near Poperinge. Surely he must be commemorated on a war memorial in Vancouver where he was born in 1897. But if he is, I cannot find his name listed anywhere. Can anyone help find him?
kenmorrison Posted 23 January , 2018 Share Posted 23 January , 2018 Stuart you could try here http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/remembrance/memorials/national-inventory-canadian-memorials However although he lived in Vancouver he was born in Calgary, Alberta. Loader Posted 23 January , 2018 Share Posted 23 January , 2018 It seems many cases have been discussed on this forum of men who are not on the memorials it is thought they should be on. Seems many times they are on the memorial where their families reside at the time of the creation of the memorial. Many times it is indeed where they were born & not where they may have lived later. Good luck on finding him.
