rmtruby Posted 1 January , 2005 Share Posted 1 January , 2005 I’ve just read how, on 11th November 1921 President Warren G. Harding dedicated the tomb of America’s Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. The unknown soldier’s body had been chosen by Sergeant Edward F. Younger, who had fought in the Somme, St Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne offensives. “What caused me to stop [before one of four coffins], I don’t know”, he said. “It was as though something had pulled me.” It would be interesting to find out more about this story. andigger Posted 1 January , 2005 Share Posted 1 January , 2005 I am not familiar with the story, but I am sure it can be easily found. Here is a picture of the tomb. Its around the corner from where I live. Let me know if there is any other info I can get for you from the cemetary. Andy
Tom Morgan Posted 1 January , 2005 Share Posted 1 January , 2005 Ray, if you go to www.google.co.uk and type in the words Younger Unknown Soldier and then click the "Google Search" button you'll get a list of websites which should include just about all the information there is. Blackblue Posted 2 January , 2005 Share Posted 2 January , 2005 I seem to recall a story about an 'Unknown soldier' being identified via DNA. Was he this man or another? Rgds Tim D
