Remembered Today:

50TH SIEGE BATTERY RGA

CFH38

Recommended Posts

My great uncle Edward Albert Thayre 65730 joined up to this Unit  in 1914 or 1915. Does anyone have any information on the unit's activities?

Many thanks.

CFH38,

he actually joined 50 SB (a battery with armament of 4 x 6in guns) on 18.03.1916, serving right through with them apart from a short attachment spell with 335 SB. Wounded in 1918 and suffered a hernia. You are aware his service records have survived?

CFH38,

His service records are available on both Find My Past and Ancestry subscription websites (many local libraries offer free access). Entering his service number is sufficient to bring him up rather than the surname which has variations.

The 50 SB battery movements can be traced from the war diary downloadable off the National Archives website for a small fee under their internal ref: WO95/476/2. Remember you are only concerned from Mar16.
