CFH38 Posted 16 January , 2018 Share Posted 16 January , 2018 My great uncle Edward Albert Thayre 65730 joined up to this Unit in 1914 or 1915. Does anyone have any information on the unit's activities? Many thanks.
ororkep Posted 16 January , 2018 Share Posted 16 January , 2018 CFH38, he actually joined 50 SB (a battery with armament of 4 x 6in guns) on 18.03.1916, serving right through with them apart from a short attachment spell with 335 SB. Wounded in 1918 and suffered a hernia. You are aware his service records have survived? Rgds Paul
CFH38 Posted 17 January , 2018 Author Share Posted 17 January , 2018 No I am not. How interesting. Please would you steer me in the right direction. Many thanks.
ororkep Posted 17 January , 2018 Share Posted 17 January , 2018 CFH38, His service records are available on both Find My Past and Ancestry subscription websites (many local libraries offer free access). Entering his service number is sufficient to bring him up rather than the surname which has variations. The 50 SB battery movements can be traced from the war diary downloadable off the National Archives website for a small fee under their internal ref: WO95/476/2. Remember you are only concerned from Mar16. Rgds Paul
