Guest jeffroberts Posted 30 December , 2004 Share Posted 30 December , 2004 Grandfather won the M.M.--Have searched the medal rolls but no details of what he did to get it.--Sadly all other records were destroyed in the Blitz.Nothing from the R.F.A. records either.Any ideas as to other avenues would be gratefully accepted. Gary Samson Posted 30 December , 2004 Share Posted 30 December , 2004 Hi Jeff, Have you tried the local newspaper? Details of actions for which the MM was awarded frequently appear in the local press (almost certainly on microfilm at your nearest library) but, as you've discovered, rarely elsewhere. Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 30 December , 2004 Share Posted 30 December , 2004 Have you looked at the Unit war diary or the relevant Brigade orders covering the period when it was gazetted? Ian

Ian Bowbrick, you suggest war diary and brigade orders, being new to the research field could you tell me where to access them? Ken Lees is this info helpfull? Bombardier Charles Henry Fearn R.F.A.(TF) B/296th N.Mid Bde His listing n the London Gazette is 13/3/1919 but I think the action award was for something done on or around 26/5/1917. Thanks again for your replies and help Jeff
