Flanders and the Somme visit

Morning all, 

 

I am planning a visit to Ypres and the Somme in April 2018. Can anyone advise on whether there are any major events I should avoid, due to hotel availability etc. Any closures etc

1st weekend (which is Easter) is the centenary of the Canadians at Moreuil & Rifle woods actions, but this is at the 'lower end' of the Somme interest area, so may not affect you.

That said, there may be other stuff going on anywhere on the western front area during early April, all to do with the German spring offensive.

Thanks caulkheader, I suspect whenever I go will be busy it being 1918- 2018. Just take a pot at it

Battle of the Lys time, which might affect staying in or around Ypres at that time - though I doubt if anything major 'special' is planned to mark the centenary.

 

Amiens area might be busy, depending on when exactly the Aussies are going to open their new centre at the Villers-B Memorial.

Looks as if the Sir John Monash Centre is due to open 16 April 2018.

Anzac Day (25 April 2018) is likely to be very busy around any Australian memorials.  Schedule here
