Sergeant Massey and Private Grange

Remembering 2 classmates from St Chad’s School, Cheetham Hill, commemorated on the War Memorial in St Chad’s Church - Sergeant Joseph Massey (300237) 1/8th Manchester Regiment killed in action 22nd Dec and Private James Grange (301270) 3/8th Manchester Regiment who served as Ford. He was killed on 22nd Dec according to SDGW, but on 23rd on CWGC site. The 2 men lie 3 graves apart in Bethune Town Cemetery. They were buried on Christmas Eve with 2 inches of snow on the ground and very cold according to the 1/8th Bn War Diary.
